About Project Lighthouse

What We Do

Project Lighthouse is a non-profit 501c(3) organization that provides material assistance and outreach to Indian tribes, organizations, and individuals nationwide.

The members of Project Lighthouse, most of whom are enrolled members of various Native American tribes, work with religious, governmental, and other Native American organizations to provide food, clothes, and other assistance to the Colorado Springs Indian community. They also offer assistance to Indian people in Denver, Pueblo and other Colorado towns and cities.

But outreach doesn't stop at the Colorado border. Project Lighthouse has led building restoration projects in locations such as as Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota all the while distrbuting food, clothing, and toys to the residents.

Project Lighthouse also sponsor cultural activities including two annual powwows in Colorado Springs -- the highlight being the Christmas powwow. The powwows are free of charge to both dancers and spectators alike. Prior to Project Lighthouse stepping up to the plate in 2004, there hadn't been a powwow in Colorado Springs for three years. Now, Indian people as far away as Minnesota are coming to Colorado Springs for the annual Christmas powwow. One feature of the Christmas powwow is the distribution of toys to Indian children who may not have otherwise had a Christmas.
